AYURVEDIC MEDICINE
Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine. It originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Therefore, Ayurveda can be loosely translated as knowledge of life. Based on the premise that disease (dis-ease) is due to an imbalance or stress in a person's consciousness, Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies that help to regain a balance between the mind, body, spirit and outside environment. The goal of treatment is to aid the person by eliminating impurities, reducing symptoms, increasing resistance to disease, reducing internal worry, and increasing harmony rather than balance in life. Herbs and other plants, including oils and common spices, are used extensively in Ayurvedic treatment.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
The basic concept of the Alexander technique is to teach improved posture and intentional movement. Intentionality in movement reduces and prevents problems caused by unhelpful and unhealthy habits. You are taught to be more aware of your body and it’s placement, thus improving poor posture that leads to low self esteem and dis-ease. When this knowledge is readily available, you can be empowered to move efficiently in mind and body.
